runtime error during setup

Runtime error during setup

I'm getting the following error during install: Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library Runtime errr program C:\$windows.~BT\sources\setup.exe abnormal program termination
I do not have any Symantec Product
Please, help me!!!

If you have any Thirdparty Firewalls on the system, try disabling it before launching setup. There's an issue that application is causing and unfortunately it is not blocked (some other applications which are known to cause problems have been blocked).
Also, file a report with your "C:\$windows.~bt\sources\panther\setupact.log file." attached. For Feedback: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=55160

Hello
Snap! There appears to be a problem when you burn the ISO to disc and try to install a fresh copy. There is also a multiboot problem with other versions of XP.
I got around this problem by partitioning the hard drive in two... install XP home OR XP pro to the partition that you want to install Vista...
If you don't have an ISO program, download UltraISO for 30 day trial...
Extract the fill contents of the vista ISO to the hard drive that you want to install vista (IE C: or D: etc)
Once complete, double click the setup.exe...
When given the option, select UPGRADE and NOT clean install..
Vista should load on to XP... and you should have vista up and running
You will find that you get a crappy MS boot manager at the beginning that will give you the option of booting from windows or earlier windows... if you ever want to boot the other XP then be quick on the cursor keys as the option is only available for 1 sec... (no joke...)
Also most USB ADSL modems don't work... use an ethernet
Hope this helps

It Worked! I had started getting this error after I had removed my Symantec Internet Seucirty Software. However the uninstall process did not remove some of the Symantec directories and registry entry. After cleaning that up, it worked just fine

I had that too - I went to Internet Explorer Properties Advanced and enabled(checked) the option "Disable Script Debugging Other" and that allowed the setup to run.

That's a good idea - Symantec has the "Script Blocking" feature on by default. They have a cleanup tool:

The problem was leftover registry entries from Norton Systemworks. Ran registry mechanic and it solved the problem. Now it crashes at the 1st reboot after the "expanding files" step. Gives me a "critical system driver missing or corrupt" error and makes reference to imagedrv.sys file.
Can anyone help?
